MEMORIES UNDER THE CANOPY

This is my throwback winter song to you, the season always change. Did you know that every friendship has an origin story, enemies can sometimes be friends in disguise and vice versa, people can really surprise you with secrets and lies, some can surprise you with love.
It’s raining hard, it sure rains in the month of May, or early June for that matter a lot. We race in the hustle and bustle to get under the canopy as we rushed to work so as to avoid getting wet. The kind of rain that makes you rethink your life choices, the rain that reminds you of how you used to stand under her umbrella, ella that chic Ella, yes that rain that reminds you of the day you used to ride to campus like the rich kids of Beverly hills, on parents’ cars or rich kids cars who had their own set of wheels!
Everyone had a campus girlfriend at the time, yes everyone including yours truly who probably had two or three ha ha ha I’m lying. There was this ‘ride or die’ as we used to call it, who would always turn heads when she’d fall through, she would always make moves how a boss do. If we were playing chess she’d probably be the queen. Come to think about it sometimes the king is a woman, this chic never gave any boys’ time of day but they always tried to talk to her. When it came to me, she had a thing for me, when we kick it she would always come through for me. All my niggas gave me a hi-five when I said I was in hot pursuit, shout out to “That_KiddBlashy.” We both cut class post up ride out in the black sport car while everyone’s watching, just to catch a glimpse of the rainy sunsets over hot chocolate or just tea "uluhya nayo!" I was going back and forth with this hype, another date after date each day, come to think of it campus was so much fun, living without a care.
We got closer over time her and I, right about the time when number two got so suspicious of the “boss-lady” so we went thru’ my phone and we’d fight. Talk about torn between the two, wasn’t really much that we really could do except to stay down with every tour that we’d be seen through. One night I had a few, yes one night I had a few, this call that caught my eye she told me “hurry up meet me, I have to catch this flight in the morning.” With my common sense neglected, of course I couldn’t make it. Life was spontaneous but at that very moment that felt too random.
Two years later next thing I know I got memories of how I miss her, so much for the rainy days. The memories still remain with each day becoming a new opportunity to get closer to our destiny. I realized that we can’t help but change; even as we hoped that the tics and tocs of our clocks would take us back to the golden days we have no choice but to make new memories each day. We can never seat down quietly and let the world pass us by.
As I sign out with a clear sight of the reducing rainfall let me remind you that every status update is a secret message for someone. Have a throwback Thursday!
